Hoops to Learn
Ballin' to Kill the Stigma
This is Open Doors’ nuanced approach to spreading awareness around learning disabilities. Sports empower and inspire young individuals to strive for greatness. Many students with learning disabilities, like dyslexia and ADHD, are hands-on learners, which is inherited in sports. Many athletes with learning disabilities excel at their sports, such as Magic Johnson, Serena Williams, Michael Phelps, and A'ja Wilson.
Open Doors hosts an annual basketball tournament called 'Hoops to Learn'. The Hoops to Learn Tournament is co-ed and for all students in high school and university.
The winning team receives 50% of the pool while the remaining funds go towards Open Door's Fund the Dream Project. In the past, we've helped support the Fraser Academy Out Reach Centre and other school/community centres with progressive plans for their academic aid centres.
